AbookTome ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application AbookTome. AbookTome is an offline-first audiobook player designed to manage and play audio files stored locally on your device.
Usage: Access to your device storage is required strictly to scan, organize, and play your local audiobooks, as well as save bookmarks and playback progress locally. Microphone access (RECORD_AUDIO) is used only when you explicitly activate voice/speech features within the app. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal audio files or voice recordings to any external servers.
Crash Reporting and Diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics)
Data Collected: Non-identifiable diagnostic information, device state logs, crash stack traces, device model, and OS version.
Purpose: To analyze and fix app crashes, performance bugs, and improve overall stability. This data is processed by Google Firebase Crashlytics and cannot be used to identify you personally.
Advertising (Google Mobile Ads / AdMob)
Data Collected: Advertising ID, device indicators, coarse location, and app interaction data.
Purpose: To serve contextual and/or personalized advertisements within the application.
Contextual ads are served based on general app content and do not require prior consent.
Personalized ads are served based on your advertising identifier and interests, and require your consent where applicable (see Section 5, "Consent for Personalized Advertising").
Internet Access
Permission: INTERNET.
Usage: Used exclusively to fetch audiobook covers from public online sources (at your request), send anonymized crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics, and load advertisements via Google Mobile Ads.
3. Data Storage and Security
All your library structure, bookmarks, playback progress, and app settings are stored locally on your device using an encrypted/isolated database (ObjectBox). We do not operate external user databases or user accounts for storing your personal listening history.
Diagnostic data collected via Firebase Crashlytics is retained by Google in accordance with their own data retention policies. We do not independently store or archive this data on our own servers.
4. Third-Party Services
AbookTome integrates the following third-party services which may collect information used to identify your device:
For users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, AbookTome uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to present a consent form before serving personalized advertisements. You may:
Accept or decline personalized advertising at first launch.
Withdraw or change your consent at any time via the app's privacy/settings menu.
Continue using the app's core functionality regardless of your advertising consent choice; declining personalized ads does not restrict access to your audiobook library or playback features.
Users outside these regions may still control ad personalization through their device's advertising settings (see Section 6).
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
Access the categories of data collected about your device.
Request deletion of diagnostic data associated with your device (where technically feasible via the underlying service, e.g., Firebase).
Object to or restrict certain data processing, including advertising-related data collection.
Reset or opt out of your Advertising ID at any time through your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID / Opt out of Ads Personalization).
Because AbookTome does not maintain user accounts or a central user database, most of these rights are exercised directly through Google's own controls for Firebase and AdMob, or by contacting us at the email below for guidance.
7. Children's Privacy
AbookTome does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. The app is not directed at children, and personalized advertising is not knowingly served to users identified as children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective date" at the top of this page. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
